As far as I know, due to your drug use almost any police department will not hire you if you have used acid. I have applied for a police department recently and the use of hard drugs (i.e. acid/cocaine) is a disqualifier.

As your drinking record goes, I think you have to be off probation at the time you apply.
But I could be wrong. I'm not a police officer yet.

Anyone else want to chime in on this subject?

I'm not exactly sure if it was "real acid" but all it did was make me laugh a lot. Haven't done cocaine in over 2 years, the same with the acid. I don't think those would show up in a drug test since how long it has been, unless they did a spinal tap, which is illegal right? Anyway I tried the acid and cocaine and that stuff is a NO GO for me.

I'm a social drinker, NOT A DRUNK. I have been off probation for more than 2 years now.

This is a career I am really looking into and that I really want to do. It's not for personal gain, other than collecting a check (ie I don't want to abuse power). My reasons for wanting to be a police offer are for legitimate purposes only. I am a good hearted person and I have made some bad choices as a "kid," should this hold me back for the rest of my life, I HOPE NOT.

If you want to help your community you can become a Paramedic, or firefighter.....go back to school and get a degree in Counseling or Psychology and help others out that way. But your going to have to stay clean from ALL drugs including MJ, there are many things you can do to help but unfortunately your drug use will prevent you from a police dept the cocaine and shrooms are automatic DQ's.

I know of departments that have hired young applicants who have, so called, experimented with drugs, but they are few and far between.
In going by your post you sound like you're sincere and have finally matured.
However, statements over the internet are sometimes deceiving.
The only way you'll ever know if you can get a job in law enforcement is to apply to the various LE agencies in your area. Talk with the chief or one of the supervisors and tell them exactly what you've stated in your post.
I'm sure you're aware that if considered for employment you would have to take and pass a lie detector test prior to attending the police academy.

Thank you everyone. To bad I thought being "cool" was cool in high school. In school I was in resource all my life up until high school. I am dyslexic, but not restarted . Any how I have over come a lot of things in my life (just like everyone else im sure) that has lead me here. If this is not for me I will find something else like the rest of the working community.

I want to server my country, but not in Iraq, and I don't want to be stuck on a ship for 6 months at a time. I talked to several requiters but they were ALL snakes in the grass. You could just tell, or maybe I could just tell. Anyways, I have considered going into the military (marines or navy) but I was told to get a 2 year degree first so I'm an officer and not a bottom of the ranks grunt. My only problem is college money . I am NOT by no means a part of a wealthy family, so unless you have some info how I can get into school, I would be willing to check it out.

I can't afford college, but I know I can't afford to go to jail or prison. Now, my neighbors are cops (her: poliece officer, and him: swat team). I thought about asking them for information, but I think they have an idea of what I use to be up to (actually i really think they know a lot, not everything but a lot). I don't know if I should ask them for information or not, thats why I am here. So needless to say I don't have the balls to tell them everything.

Can anyone else suggest any other careers that, in your opinion, may be a good job for me? Please don't say construction because I have been doing that for the past 3 years and I know I wont be able to do that all my life because masonry work is extremely difficult.

I am just trying to find something that I will like and something that I can stick with for the rest of my life.

Police the profession is really important for anyone. when you are related with this you have to keep the law of your country. So you will be responsible for any crime what happens before you. Honesty is another matter in this regards you need to be an decent guy if you want to be an ideal police.

so basically you can be a coke head and be a president (remember bush jr?), but your qualification for being a cop is now null and void. sounds like bs to me...
