Ok, I've been out of the law enforcement loop for a while, and now that I am getting back in, I purchased a nice shiny new Sig Sauer P229 .40 cal pistol. I could use some advice on best ammunition brands and types to purchase, for both defense and practice.

Gold dot is always nice. Ranger STX are great too. Federal Hydroshocks are ok IMO.

We are issued the Gold Dots. Supposedly the bonded ammo will do better when fired through glass.

As far as practice ammo goes, I've shot just about everything under the moon. I think my favorite is the Aguila practice ammo. It's in a green box and I shot 500 rounds one day while it was snowing and raining with no ammo related issues. When I got home that night to clean my pistol, it was actually cleaner then if I had shot winchester white box.

I don't know if you will find the Aguila in stores, but I know you can get it online. It's made in Mexico and is a wee bit less expensive than WWB.
