Last nights ridealong
Last nights ridealong
Last night I had a ride along with my advisor, it was so much fun and a great learning experience.
1200 Shift begins
1215 Accident call 2car w/ lane blockage (I got to help direct traffic)
1300 Theft call .46 stolen from a car
1330 Theft call Gas theft
1500 Traffic stop Exceding posted limits
1725 EMS call 73 y/o male with shortness of breath and dizzyness
1800 Pizza with the officer (I wanted to buy, he wouldn't let me)
1915 Call about flooding in a mans basement
1930 Call about flooding across a roadway
2000 Radar assignment (2 stops)
2100 suspicous persons
2155 2 car accident w/ injuries.
This accident was right as he was picking up the mic to go 10-42(ending tour of duty). They came over the radio and asked us to report to a 2 car accident with injuries and lane blockage. The officer looks at me and says "Well I guess you get a bit of siren time now" and he takes off. I got to help out doing what I could, getting stuff for this officer or that officer.
2330 10-42
Now before you go thinking that I am a adrenilin(sp?) junkie. I realize that going code 3 means it is something serious and someones life is in danger. I know that you have to be extra carefull when driving code 3 to a incident.
It was a great experience and makes me want to be a police officer that much more then I already did, now I KNOW I am going to be a police officer, it is just a matter of when.

Man, that would be a learning experience. They are trying to re-enstate the ride along program at my post. I hopefully will get to go on a ride along in the not to distant future.

I wish I could do that!! I would love to go out at night. I think that's the time when things really happen. I had sort of a ride along experience here in Aguascalientes. It was a really cold, drizzly morning. I was looking for a taxi. There weren't any. I was late for work and getting a little bit mad. This police patrol car comes up real slow and the officer said there really weren't any taxi,s where was I going. I told him the address and he said he would take me there. Well, I thought that was just FINE. I got in. I then told him that I was late and he asked me if I wanted him to turn on the siren. I declined. Couldn't arrive at the English institute in a police car with the siren going. I mean. . .!

The officer really can ask you questions, but we are not tested. We are asked like "what street are we on?" and "Did you see if someone was standing on that corner or not?".
Speaking of testing, we have a test next week on incident responce, and if we don't pass we have to stay at the PD and keep doing the test till we pass. It is basically a senario we have to go though and the advisor and 2 other officers are the bad guys, and they will escalate the situation if need be or de-esculate if we do everything right.

Man I love ride a longs, i'm not a explorer I wish I had known about the program when I was younger. But i've done like 2.5 ride- a-longs did 1 with a local twp K9 that was pretty amazing nothing to exciting, did a half of one with Michigan State police that was pretty cool 1st stop of the night was a DUI so I was able to see the female booked into the county jail, the deputies were all so cool, they were showing what all they did, it was sort of like a 2nd ride-a-long with out the riding part My 3rd one I did back in the spring with the TWP I want to do my internship with, started off well a couple complaint call, domestics, and then around 5ish there was an Armed robbery(AR) so here we are in pretty crappy traffic so he hits the light and sirens gets in the wrong direction of travel directing cars out of his way with hand motions, talk about an adrenline rush (I know exactly what your talkin about tamale). There were more, cool calls.
On your ride-a-longs were you able to get out on traffic stops, and domestics?
