Ride-Along

Yesterday night I went on a ride-along with my explorer advisor. He works the second shift (1400-2200). The day started out slow because he had paperwork from the day before. After he had caught up on his paperwork we went out and did some patrol.

We had serveral traffic stops during a two hour period: (2) speeding, (2) expired tags, (1) no plates.

We then recived a call to a residance, for a complaint that their mail had been tamperd with, this was one of the weirdest calls I have ever been on, in my life.

We then had a OWI (Operating under the influence), stop which turned out to be a 87 year old man comming back from a golf outting. He blew a .101 on the breathilizer test, but passed all the other field soberity test. We the gave him a ride to his house and let him off with a speeding ticket.

The rest of the night was full of some more traffic stops.

To cap off the night we were dispatched to a noise complaint that turned out to be a underage drinking party. The kids did not open the door smart of them. When the officer knocked on the door we heard "Sh*t its the cops....cling cling cling". lol....

I love rideing with this officer because he treats me like I somewhat know what I am doing. The other officers talk to me like I am just some jo shmo off the street. I do know some things about lawenforcement, not all them them by far but then again who really knows EVERYTHING about LE......NO ONE.

Also I was able to write out the warnings that the officer issued for speeding and other "minor" traffic violations.

Captain,

With our department policy it is the officers descrestion when it comes to when a ride-along can and can not get out of the patrol car, with the execption of traffic stops. Ride-alongs are not allow to get out on ride-alongs or domestic's.

We are not supposed to talk to "suspects" unless they talk to us first. Most of the shift is spent inside the patrol car, but there are times when the officer allows you out. I was able to get out of the car when we went to the noise complaint. If you have anymore questions pm me and I will be happy to answer them for you.
