My Job
When squad called my unit I would respond.
Whether it was a stabbing, a shooting, or another dead john.
10-4 I would say I am enroute.
Not knowing the situation or what the call was about.
It was my duty to serve and to protect.
A mentor, a counselor, all I asked for was some respect.
At times I was nervous, even a bit scared.
My adrenaline pumping when our sirens blared.
So many killings to them it's a game.
Kids caught in the middle, a bullet knows no name.
So young, so innocent they had so much left to do.
So forgive me if I cry, because I am human too.
Never once did I take something that was not mine
Not a ten, a twenty, not even a dime.
Always tried to show some respect and kindness.
Because I was proud to be one of Chicago's Finest.
Never did I think when I got this call.
That this would be my last job, my last 5-Paul.
When the shots rang out I didn't feel the round.
Until I heard my partner say "Officer Down".
Now as I lay here trying to be strong.
How could things have gone so wrong.
Not knowing that tomorrow was never on it's way.
The lord had something else in mind, for me that fateful day.
This can't be happening; I'm too young to die.
To my family, my friends, I don't want to say good-bye.
You didn't have to shoot, my life you didn't have to rob.
Because I was just doing what was my job.

That is a very good poem and it's sad. At the same time, it makes you think about life and why we do things that we do.

Yeah, it's why what cops do scares the you-know-what out of me!! As I've said before, I could really get into whipping out my gun and yelling, "Freeze mother******!!!" but if someone were to aim a gun at me, I would drop to the ground in a fetal position and yell for my Momi!

The police department that my explorer post is at, the chief would have a your ass if you said this. You must be professional at all times. I know it slips out when the adrenaline is going though your body you might let one slip, but the chief would would "want to speak" with you in his office!!!!!
IT IS GREEEEEAAAAATTTTT POEM!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the good thing about patrol HT is the cheif is hardly around when working in the field, unless it's a VERY VERY small dept.

They have camera's in most crusiers, if not then they at least have MIC's. If will come out in court! But it will be taken into concideration of what was all going on before and during the incident!

Here the mics and the camera's are turned off until usually the lights are activated so if you have someone in your backseat, and you can a spade a spade nobody but you and the piece of $hit will hear you.
On a ride once we arrested a heroine addict who kept running his mouth and the officer told him what he thought of him "called him a piece of $hit" which he was. It happens to most and will continue to happen when dealing with scum.

Thats true, I will agree with you there. You just never know when the public is watching and taping so you always have to be careful that is just the way things are now, the public likes to officers when they can, just watch CNN basically any given day!!! But I do agree, they deserve to be called a piece of $hit!!!!!

Things are a little bit less formal here. I have heard--no evidence, mind you--that if someone is misbehaving in the back seat the officer driving the patrol car has to "make an emergency stop" in order to "avoid an accident". The prisoner winds up slamed against the wire. I have also heard that this effectively calms the person down.

Unless it is an officer and you have been very bad...DONT EVER drop to a fetal position..or yell for mom.People can sense your fear, just like a canine and this will only boost their ego.You can talk your way out,or disarm them and beat the crap out of them,or run like hell.Dropping to the ground is not an option, for me anyway.I am not ready to die.
