What's new!!??!?!%(&(&*asterisk
Hi guys, I haven't posted seriously for at least two weeks. I thought I'd drop by and say hello!
So yeah, classes started up again for the fall semester. One of the courses I'm taking is "Police Operations and Procedures". It is taught by a retired Narcotics Enforcement officer who served in my county. He is amazingly knowledgeable. The book that I'm reading for the course is called "Police Field Operations" 7th Edition, by Thomas F. Adams.
Thomas F. Adams is currently a professor of Criminal Justice and has extensive experience as an LEO. Believe you me, I'm reading this book cover to cover and highlighting the **** out of it.
Other than that, I'm taking Speech and College Math. (nothing of interest there)
I'm not sure if I posted about this in pages prior, but I'm leaning heavily towards County Sheriff. In my County, Sheriffs start as Corrections officers for their 1st year, and after that period may elect to continue or discontinue corrections work. I'm thinking I'd like to be on the streets, but who am I to say at this point? I'm also not exactly sure why it is I want to join the Sheriffs instead of the Police.. maybe the much larger jurisdiction? I've heard rumors that politics play (slightly) less of a role there? (Not really sure about that)
I also have heard whispers that making SRT (Special Response Team... my county does not have SWAT) is easier from Sheriff than it is from basic police departments.
If anyone has input on any of the topics about my prospective employment or whatever, feel free to contribute. Or if you have anything to add, above text notwithstanding, go for it.
My girlfriend is a pre-pharmacy major going to UIC and therefore we can only see eachother on the weekends...
Hence, my weekend activities have been altered.... slightly............... .................................................. ................. ......................
.................
I haven't fired a bullet in like three weeks.
I am happy to report that I am still playing hockey, and that I have been keeping up with my regular workouts.
I think I'll be moving up to curling 45 pounds within the next month or two, even!
I'm also almost down to 220lbs, at which time I will have lost 40 pounds on the year!!
Last but not least, I managed to run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes the other day, which is a huge step forward for me. The only catch is that this was on the elliptical trainer, not the treadmill, and certainly not real ground.
It is easy to scoff at that, but just 1 year ago I couldn't even do 1.5 miles in 20 minutes.
Anyway, I've done some actual treadmill training, which is going alright. One step at a time.
Enough of all that. Good to see the LEF going strong, and happy Labor Day!

Hi Tim! We haven't posted like normal either but that's because our computer crashed (actually I think my son's ex fiance did it because she was mad at us). Plus, I started school also. I am working on my Bachelor's in Social Science. I will be done in Sept. 09. Best of luck with school!

Keep at it. The only way to cross the finish line is determination.

Thanks for the encouragement.
Also, my girlfriend has accidentally knee'd me in the balls exactly 5 times since we met. I think that is sacrifice enough, Swattie!
It is a good thing I'm a tough guy, and took it with a chuckle. I love her very much!

Where were you on the morning of 9/11/01?
I'll never forget the morning of 9/11/01 when my daughter called and said "quick dad turn on your TV!!!" I turned it on and saw the second plane hit the south tower. For a few minutes I couln't believe what I was seeing and thought to myself this can't be for real it must be a Sci FI movie. Then after listening to the commentator explaining what was happening and seeing the dust covered people running through the streets of lower Manhattan I knew that it was actually happening and that we were at war.
There aren't many events that've happened where I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the moment I heard the news.
I can remember just a few, but none are locked in my memory as tight as 9/11/01.

Do think that, maybe, your relationship is not exactly what you had hoped it would be? Like, is she telling you something? LOL
