Surpreme Court Decision: Must read!!!
I am sure your departments have already addressed this ruling in an email or training for all police officers however, you can no long search a vehicle because you arrested them (search incident to a valid arrest). You must be able to articulate that evidence of the crime you arrested the individual for may be in the vehicle in order to search. Below is a link to the supreme court ruling, it is 34 pages long, but it could save your @ss if you read and understand.
