On 27 July at approximately 3:30am, while manning a traffic control point due to a downed tree, Port ****inson Police Officer Aldo Rossi, was struck by a drunk driver. Officer Rossi was talking to the driver of another car when a vehicle driven by Patrick Fitzgerald careened into him. Officer Rossi was taken to the hospital and into emergency surgery. He is in critical condition at this time. He is not showing any signs of brain activity. The other driver was picked up by the Broome County Sheriffs Dept. and taken in for arraignment. He was charged with DWI and Vehicular Assault. The Assault will probably change due to the very likely chance that Aldo will not survive.
