ACO is the designation the Sheriff's department gave me for my police radio call sign and it means Animal Control officer, they also call me dog food!!! I issue misdemeanors and seize dangerous dogs for public safety. I also work assisting the Sheriff's department with dog cases and pickup dead animals. I have also worked with Fish and Game on one dog case were I had a pit bull shot for chasing deer and people! I am not allowed a firearm.

I could give plenty of reasons why Animal Control should be armed with a handgun and a Rifle.

I was told by my boss, the city council that I don't need a firearm and to wait for the police to back me up even when human life is at risk. I even asked for permission stating the the Sheriff's department weapons trainer could certify me with a long gun, they said POST training and a shotgun would make them too liable and it would be better to wait for a deputy to shoot the dog.

I guess that will be the standing line then until one of their loved ones is getting mauled by an animal.

Second that comment, Swattie. When dealing with a rabid animal seems to me that time is one of the things you don't have a lot of cause the animal is VERY unpredictable.
