Becoming a Police Officer...Polygraph

Okay guys, I need your help. I am looking to become a police officer. I have a two year degree in CJ and am currently working on my 4 year degree, after which I am going to get my masters in CJ Administration. I interned with the State Department in the Diplomatic Security Service which required a Secret Security Clearance. My question is, during my stay at the DSS, I learned all about polygraphs, how they work, how you can beat them, how they are conducted, everything. We had gotten on the conversation because you do not get a polygraph with State, so they explained why. Anyway, with this knowledge, do I tell a polygrapher with a department I am applying to this or do I keep it to myself. The reason is, I have heard that they go either way. Some will drop you because they can't complete a polygraph, others will pass you on, but generally, they won't want to conduct them. What is your advice when it comes polygraph time?

If they ask, then disclose it. If they don't ask, tell the truth. Don't try to lie about it because that will get you DQ'd (from that agency and all others). I guess my decision would be to inform them of the fact you went through that, but just answer the questions they ask and you will be fine.

That is what I figured, but I just wanted to make sure. I wouldn't lie, I have never really done anything wrong. It was more if they asked, what do I say. So, I will disclose it and just see what happens. Turns out, a relative of mine who joined the FBI disclosed it to them and they let him pass without the poly because a previous department had told him about it after he passed their poly.

They probably let him pass because the department he had already taken it for, handed over the results to the FBI. That is my guess.

Look forward to seeing more posts from ya, good luck!
