Fun at work today.
I was working th most dreaded cellhouse today.
I thoroughly impressed everyone. I got the inmates to lock up. Including one that looked like his mother did steroids while she was pregnant with him.
He tried to intimidate me. I stood my ground and said time to lock up. We stared each other down some more and he went to his cell.
They had never had the cell house so quiet, they said.
They wish I was coming to their shift and in the cellhouse full time.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I missed prison work. The road was fun but I enjoy this much better.

I won't call you crazy Swattie. It just gets into our blood and becomes fun. It's also, "just another day at the office" as the "normal people" say.

Crazy? Okay, even my wife calls me crazy
What job do you have that is safe? I couldn't think of doing anything outside of Law Enforcement. I often wonder how hard it would be to adjust to the civilian world if I had to. My wife calls me paranoid and everyone who actually knows me (I can count them all on one hand...hence the paranoid belief by others) know that I watch everything that is going on around me, all the time (especially in public). I just believe that some of us were born to do this line of work. You know it's defintiely not done for the pay or gratitude received by most.

I also don't know what I would do outside of law enforcement. I have been in law enforcement for 11 years now, 8 on the road and 3 in Corrections. A total of 5 years of that was in tactical. It gets in your blood.

It's hard to think about how you would adjust in anything else. Sometimes we just have to face the fact that we are where we are supposed to be and that is that. When I leave DOC, it will be only to persue other LE work. That's what I'm in the process of doing right now. In fact I originally planned to leave the DOC and go into the civilian sector working in a warehouse or something overseaes for a lot of money. I decided though, that I would try for a little less money and stick to the LE field over there. It's still a lot more than I'll ever make in DOC or a County or City Dept. When I return, I plan to return to civilian LE work here and enjoy it while I can. I love what we do I just dislike the political garbage that comes with it. But I've dealt with for 10 years and will continue to when I return home. And not because I have to but because I want to. You know what I mean.
