This is my first post, so first I'll tell a bit about myself. I graduated high school in 2006 and went to WKU for a year. I was going into Mechanical Engineering, but hated it. I switched to Bowling Green Tech the next year and started working towards a CAD degree. I'm around 30 hours from getting my associates in that and have been looking at jobs for a decent amount of time now. The use of the program has almost faded, as engineers are beginning to do CAD as well. Most places want 3-5 years experience or a Bachelors degree.
With that said I've started looking at other options. My dad was in the Marine Corps. in the 80's. Of course he raised me accordingly and I have always had an interest in the military. I have actually talked to USMC, ARMY, and National Guard recruiters. However my mother has been having recent health problems and didn't take well to the news of what I was considering. I couldn't put that burden on her, especially under the circumstances.
Recently I started looking into Law Enforcement, specifically the Kentucky State Police. I'm basically wanting some feedback on getting prepared for the tests and associated events leading up to training. I have done some research and saw the age and tattoo guidelines. Those are two of my main concerns. As of now I'm 20. Is the 21 age requirement based on the time of which the process starts, when Academy starts, Academy completion? I also have a tattoo on my right bicep. It's roughly 3-4 inches above my elbow at it's lowest point. Would this disqualify me from acceptance?
Sorry for the long post and I look forward to hearing from you guys. Thanks.
