Lets talk about ammunition

So, as I posted about before, I ended up purchasing a 45 ACP handgun for my first. I am extremely pleased with my choice.

Despite the fact that 45 ACP has a good helping of recoil, I feel confident that it was the best decision to start big. If I ever need to step to a lower caliber for, you know, Duty, different gun, whatever, I'm sure it will be significantly easier to control.

Moving on, I may have pointed out that AbleAmmo is the company I purchase my ammunition from, and I would highly suggest that *IF* you are going to buy munitions from the INTERWEBS, that you go there. I received prompt service and whatnot, timely shipping, blah blah.

(please note that I am not promoting AbleAmmo, I am just trying to be helpful. I am not posting links in this thread, use Google if you want to go look.)

First order of business: I purchased THIS AMMUNITION In a quantity of 10 boxes (500 rds) for only $14.78 a box. ->

Lets be clear about something: I don't know where you guys are from, but, I'm from the chicago-area, and nothing is cheap up here. The cheapest 'box of 50' in 45 ACP caliber FMJ at my gun store is $21.65 (thank you 8.25% sales tax)

So, to be able to purchase ammunition without paying tax, AND for $5.22 less per box, is outright insane.

Anyway, lets move on. I made this thread to discuss ammunition

CCI Blazer: This ammunition has Aluminum Alloy casings (This means they cannot go in your range's 'brass bin', bring a baggie or something). Despite any bad rumors, or whatever, I was 100% pleased with this ammunition. I fired all 500 rounds of it and I had No FTF. That's 500 for 500 successful ignitions. All at a cheap price, too :P

I felt the accuracy was just dandy, (I shot some pretty nice targets with the Blazer ammo...)

The next ammunition I plan to test within the next month or two is THIS ->

This ammunition is created by Federal Cartridge. It is the same 230 GR Bullet, however, it travels at 1240 FPS as opposed to the standard ~850 FPS

I will post again when I test it.

I currently have a bulk shipment of THIS ->
ammunition on the way. I don't plan on reviewing it because I assume everyone has fired it already.. and knows that it kicks serious butt

As a note of closure... I would like to inform everyone that "GAP" (glock automatic pistol) ammunition is the BIGGEST RIPOFF IN THE WORLD. The cheapest box of GAP 45 on the internet (where everything is cheaper) is something around $22. Moral of the story: Shoot a glock if you want to pay very high prices for ammunition.

P.s. I am not saying Glocks are bad. I am also not saying that GAP 45 is bad ammunition. I am just saying that in my personal opinion, GAP is overpriced and not worth the extra dough.

(I shoot a springfield... /flex)

Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed

Feel free to start discussions here about what ammunition brands YOU trust!

I had the 45 GAP at one time. It was really accurate but ammo was hard to find. I traded it for my G23 in .40. Glocks come in different calibers. Also Sprinfield XD had a .45 GAP at one time. Just getting that off of my chest.

Winchester makes good ammo for target practice. It is also usually inexpensive.

Remington UMC is also pretty good and can come in cases of 250 rounds.

I have never heard of Independence. Fiocchi is usually over rated.

I feel Fiocchi is overrated in part because it is a bit overpriced for what it is. I paid only $16.57 per box of 50 from Able's. I feel that $16.57 is a very, very good price.

However, as I said before, my stupid gun shop tries to sell it for $21.65 after tax.

Lame :'(

I had no idea! crazy. I have no doubt it was of high quality, as Glock is a very good company. I just like to blend effectiveness with a good price.

Independence ammunition (that is how it appears on the box) is produced by Federal Cartridge. I have had little experience with Federal Cartridge, but, I have heard the company is very good.

Can you comment on that? Ever used any of Federal Cartridge's ammunition?

Just so we're on the same page, here is an example of JHP by Federal Cartridge -->

Federal is pretty good. far as hollow points go I like Hornaday TAP and Speer Golddot the best.

I am currently carrying Blackhills JHP in my Glocks. They are extremely accurate but leave much to be desired in the way of ballistics.

when you say "in the way of ballistics" what do you mean exactly?

Ricocheting all over the place?

By ballistics I mean the velocity of the bullet and the expansion rate of the bullet once it makes impact with its target.

Ah, so I take it that you are disappointed with the low velocity of the round?

As long as it is a lighter grain bullet expansion should not be affected much. .45's are a slower bullet by nature. That is how it was designed, for knock down power.
