i believe you when you tell me that a private citizen has done his own tests on a gun, you dont have to justify to me what the tests involve, i know first hand what they involve.
as for the results and conditions i do not believe they will be available to the public.
but i assure you they go through great extremes not only physical harm to the system but just a massive volume of ammunition put through them after each condition also, and each round is precisely counted as to know when and where and what broke and at what round.

i think we are getting away from the topic of "favorite handgun" im not here to argue the glock, we use it, when its mission specific.
i understand that for police agencies it is now the most favored weapon of choice, and has become the most favored pistol on the civilian market, primarily due to the fact that the average persons first exposure to pistols is what thier local PD is carrying, and from that the public get the comfort of thinking the pistol carried by LEO's must be the best there is, well we know that isnt true. it is what the department can afford, when you can get a glock w/night sights for $300 what dept wouldn't take it!
all i am doing is offering some alternatives to the topic, as i put back in my post what other pistols to look at.
im not really interested in a private civilians test on his pistol, anyone can say they did anything to anything and post it.

eptaconsultants, we are getting away from the topic, and yes you make very valid points. Please try to capitalize your sentances it makes it so must easier to read. But, you are correct most citizens' first exposure to a handgun is the Glock and they do think it is the best, but we all know there are better guns out there if you want to spend the $$$$$.

Hello together!
In Germany we carry the SIG SAUER P226, since 1990. Ist a good HG, but (i don't know how to say it right in english) the HG doesen't go with the time, it has only a low magazin (8 rounds) and its verry heavy. Next year we change the HG. At this time we testing the WALTHER P99, H&K P2000 and the Glock 17.
If have to choose one, i would take the H & K. H & K always stays for quality (in my opinion) and my MP5 A4 never leave me alone ( i hope you know what i mean).
Greetings from Germany

I love my MP5 but am unfamiliar with the HK handguns. A lot of Agencies here care Sig also but they have high capacity magazines.

Normaly the low magazin capacity is not a problem for us, becaus we carry alway 4 Mags with us. The only problem is, when we are on duty whithout uniform, its difficult to cover the pistole and 4 mags. It would be easier to have mag with about 12 rounds, and anotherone in the pocket.
I hope that changes next year, when we get the new model.

When we changed from the Browning, we had a choice (as a Department) of any handgun on the market, regardless of cost. We evaluated everything, firing thousands of rounds through each weapon. Each of us had to submit our findings independently of each other. From the 30 of us doing the testing, 25 voted Glock, 4 Sig and 1 H&K. We got the Glock. Simple to use and clean and best of all no external safety. Never seen one fail, apart from handler error (limp wrist).

I realize this thread is a bit old, but hey, lets fire it up!
Alright, as is already apparent, I own a Springfield XD-45.
over the last ~6 weeks I've put 1,595 rounds through it, with no jams and no malfunctions.
I've become a very strong fan of Springfield Arms because I think most of their firearms are very practical.
MY idea of a duty handgun, or generally, any handgun I'd want to carry on my person for hours at a time, has the following:
- No external safety (Unless it is a 1911, they actually need one)
- Trigger safety
- Grip safety
- Indicator of whether or not the weapon is cocked
- If possible, an indicator of whether or not the weapon has a round in the chamber
Obviously, the only gun that I know of on the market that has all 5 of these is the springfield XD, hence, the reason it was the first handgun I purchased.
If I could have any gun in the world, price-not-withstanding, it would be the springfield FBI issue TRP. The non-FBI issue TRP is just downright sexy alone, I can't imagine how much better it could get...
I think Glock's are basically the sister of the XD, and I like them, however, the day I fire a gun with a polymer slide is the day I ride a unicycle. I actually prefer entirely metal guns, hence the whole "I <3 1911's" thing.

For starters....My Glock has a hard metal tennifer finished slide. Never heard of a polymer slide (unless it is that pesky Glock 7 from Die hard LOL).
The Springfield XD is a nice gun. I will admit that. I plan on getting one in .45 ACP at some point down the road.
