Strain between Fire Dept. and police??

Video of Vancouver brawl suggests strain between police and firefighters Wed Mar 21, 10:40 AM ET

VANCOUVER (CP) - Two men have been charged after a video of a brawl between Vancouver police and an off-duty firefighter and his son hit the Internet.

Police say 44-year-old firefighter Curtis Mason and his 20-year-old son Grant are charged with assaulting a police officer and obstruction. The video posted on the popular YouTube website shows several other firefighters in full gear standing around watching the officers battle the two men.

Const. Howard Chow says police have certain expectations of other emergency personnel at such calls but those expectations were not met.

But Capt. Rob Jones-Cook of the Vancouver fire department says police and firefighters usually work well together, and it's not clear if the firefighters at the scene were told not to intervene.

The fight broke out as police investigated the crash of an SUV in downtown Vancouver on Saturday night.

Two police cruisers also collided while racing to the scene to help out, sending the officers to hospital.

The Masons are scheduled to appear in court on March 29.

I'm sure there is more to this story, that's not being told or has yet to be discovered, hope it is not what it looks like!!! Hopefully I will be able to post an update.

I'm sure glad that doesn't happen here! Some of those firefighters in our town are HUGE.

I hope this doesn't happen too often...even though I'm not a police officer, I see police, fire, EMS and bylaw as a team, since they often call on each other for assistance. I'd like to think that I can trust the guy or girl coming to help me, and not be afraid that they might beat the poop outta me! Lol

Prayers to the two officers hurt in the accident.

I was on a ride along with one of our police officers and we were responding to a crash on the off ramp of a local hwy. The officer asked the fire fighters if they would mind directing traffic away from the scene because both drivers were fine. The fire fighters said they didn't mind at all and helped the officer out. I don't think we have this kind of animosity between our FD and PD.
