Impersonating An Officer

There was a story in Ontario news lately of a man impersonating a police officer. I believe that they have the man in custody, and I hope he's not charged lightly.

I think he was going around hospitals, as an officer.

Did anyone else catch that story?

I diden't catch that story but just some background on US Laws:

Depending on state law, impersonating a police officer may be considered either a felony or a misdemeanor. Punishments for impersonating a police officer include:
  • Imprisonment up to five years (sometimes more)
  • Fines (usually $1000 or more)
  • Probation
  • Permanent criminal record

CityNews: Police Arrest 23-Year-Old For Impersonating An OPP Officer

I'll try to find out the penalty for impersonating an officer and post it here.

Impersonating a Police officer is not a joke. He deserves such punishment. Do you think imprisonment for five years is enough for such violation?

I'm not sure what his motivation was in this case, but I think that more than five years would definitely be appropriate for some violations, considering how much harm someone could do in that situation.
